Radio (Dual Language Program) - Thai

Leading The Way's dual-language broadcasts feature Michael Youssef's Gospel messages in English, which are translated phrase by phrase into one of 20 languages reaching some 115 countries. Many listeners tune in to learn English — and, as a result, hear the Gospel.

Leading The Way's Thai broadcast began April 1, 2007. The English-Thai program broadcasts via seven radio stations in Thailand.

Thai is the 18th translated language in Leading The Way's dual-language radio format. The broadcast reaches the majority of Thailand and is being broadcast through seven stations via Voice of Peace Christian Communication Center in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Originally slated to launch in 2009, the English-Thai dual-language program began broadcasting in April 2007 — two years ahead of schedule. According to Yezdi Bhada, Ph.D., Consultant for International Operations, this language proved to be "one of the more difficult languages to produce in the dual-language format." There was a time when it looked as if the Thai language would be dropped from Leading The Way's plans because of the many hurdles that arose in producing the program. But "the Good Lord brought a golden opportunity to us through one of our network sources," says Bhada, and Thai is now on the air.

Thai is the official language of Thailand and is spoken by approximately 50 million people worldwide. However, English is a mandatory subject in public schools and is widely spoken, particularly in Bangkok and other major cities. Buddhism is the major religion and practiced by nearly 95 percent of the population.

Thailand faces major problems, including an epidemic of HIV infections, poverty, and prostitution is a large-scale issue. It is estimated that nearly 500,000 young women have turned to prostitution as a way of providing for their starving families. Thailand was also hit by the massive tsunami of December 2004.

Many areas of Thailand have never heard the Gospel, but praise God that Leading The Way's Thai broadcast is providing a way to reach the lost with the Gospel saving message of the Lord Jesus Christ.
